According to a report on Kotaku, Hanger 13 is currently in the early stages of development on a new Mafia game.
The news comes following confirmation of the departure of studio boss Haden Blackman earlier today. Apparently, the new Mafia game is in ‘very early development’ and is being worked on at Hanger 13’s Brighton, UK team. It’s codenamed Nero, and is allegedly going to be a prequel to the original Mafia trilogy.
The report goes on to say that the new Mafia game is going to be developed using the Unreal Engine 5 instead of the Mafia 3 engine that was used in the remasters of the previous Mafia games.

As previously reported, Blackman’s replacement will be Nick Baynes, who heads up the Brighton office. 2K released the following statement announcing his new role:
With 30 years of industry leadership experience, Nick joined Hangar 13 in 2018 to establish Hangar 13 Brighton, and has spent the last four years growing the team, building up the studio’s capabilities, and launching terrific projects like Mafia: Definitive Edition and the Mafia Trilogy.
2K has not officially announced a new Mafia game yet, so treat this as speculation for the time being.
