FIFA 22 has been one of the top releases from EA Sports’ famed franchise for many years. There are millions of players hopping on to enjoy the various game modes, including Ultimate Team and Volta. But, just how accurate are the teams, and why does this being the case matter?
EA Sports have always aimed to reproduce an accurate representation of football in the video games they release under their FIFA banner to the best of their ability. And while there is a focus on realistic gameplay, they also strive to deliver authenticity where teams and players are concerned too.
One thing that has always gone in EA Sports’ favour is that they hold the relevant licenses to naming rights and player likeness, which automatically means that they can call Aston Villa, well, Aston Villa. In contrast, their rivals are currently unable to do so.
When you have the above as the foundation, it means that you’re in an excellent position to ensure teams are accurate. But there must be more going on that will really allow for squads and their respective players’ actual abilities, attributes and all that good stuff to come to the fore.
It’s why there are researchers employed by EA Sports who are there to drill down into the nitty-gritty. Each player has base attributes, which are then broken down further. Pace, for example, is made up of acceleration and sprint speed. And together, they will combine to provide a base number.
Everything is more or less evidence-based, too. So, for example, if there was an idea that a player may have a better finishing ability than is currently represented in FIFA, it would have to be proven via video clips and from other sources, which demonstrates that an accurate representation is the ultimate aim.
So, what you can take from this is that if you’re getting all the players as close to how they are in real life, not just where ability is concerned, but how they look, move and so on. It means that teams are, on the whole, incredibly accurate.
It can only be a good thing for players, especially those just starting out and looking for sound advice when playing FIFA 22. It doesn’t matter which of the various game modes you’re playing; it’s always recommended to go with teams and players you know, as you will naturally have a feel for them.
And, if you’re an expert FIFA player, even better, because you know you can trust those behind the scenes to ensure the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi and even icons such as Pele and George Best, are as realistic as they come.
There are rumours that EA Sports could be set to lose their licensing agreement with FIFA because of a rise in the price proposed by football’s governing body. But rest assured, for now, teams, players, and gameplay remains the most accurate out there.
