Fighting Vipers, Virtua Fighter 2 for PSN/XBL?

SEGA looks set to make a batch of classic Saturn titles available as digital downloads in the near future, including Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2.

That’s at least according to German ratings body USK (via Sacra), which lists Xbox 360 versions of the aforementioned duo, as well as Sonic the Fighters, for release on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

No PlayStation Network release was mentioned, though given the fact recent retro hits have made their way to Sony’s online service, we can surely expect the same thing to happen with this latest bunch.

Both Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2 hit SEGA’s beleaguered black box in the mid-90s, having previously started out life in the arcades. Both were considered among the pinnacle of beat-‘em-ups for their time.

Sonic the Fighters was in the pipeline for Saturn but ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor; however, the game was still fully playable on the Japanese arcade scene, and later turned up on Sonic Gems Collection for GameCube.

SEGA has been on a retro rampage as of late, bringing high-definition remakes of NiGHTS into Dreams, Jet Set Radio and Sonic Adventure 2 to PSN/XBL for wallet-friendly price point.

The company previously released Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi in HD, and rumors suggest Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia could be getting the same treatment.
