The Director’s Guild of Canada has revealed that the The Last of Us HBO series will begin filming this July in the Calgary area.
According to a listing by the guild, The Last of Us will kick off production on July 5 and wrap up filming on June 8 the following year. This is further confirmed by Calgary’s International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which confirms a July production date.
The Last of Us HBO series will star Pedro Pascal of The Mandalorian fame as Joel and Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and will be based on the first entry in Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed title. The series will be written and produced by Craig Mazin, with Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann also producing.
The HBO blurb for the series reveals that The Last of Us will focus on hardened survivor Joel as he attempts to smuggle the 14-year-old Ellie out of an “oppressive quarantine zone.” The job eventually turns into a “brutal heartbreaking journey” as the pair trek across the remnants of the United States and rely on each other for survival.
