Epic Games has announced a Fortnite PS5 release is coming in time for the console’s launch this holiday season, alongside an Xbox Series X version of the game.
Fortnite PS5 Release Confirmed
In addition to confirming a next-generation version of Fortnite, the studio revealed that it will migrate the battle royale title to the newly-announced Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021. To be fair, a PS5 version makes sense, as the game is ridiculously popular, so it’s bound to do well.
Epic Games chief Tim Sweeney commented:
We’re gonna be launching Fortnite on next-generation consoles using Unreal Engine 4.25, which is going to be updated, which lots of partners are launching next-generation games on, and we’ll transition Fortnite to Unreal Engine 5 next year and start to incorporate cool new features based on it.
Fortnite battle royale was released back in 2017 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, and has gone on to attract millions of gamers worldwide. Epic is continuing to support the shooter with new seasons of content, so don’t expect it to retire and mow the lawn anytime soon.
As for Unreal Engine 5, Epic revealed a jaw-dropping tech demo earlier today, so be sure to check it out and see how things are shaping up.
