BioWare‘s in-development Mass Effect 5 could ditch the Frostbite engine in favour of Unreal Engine, according to a job listing posted publisher Electronic Arts and corroborated by various sources speaking with VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb.
According to Grubb’s report on the site, the job listing calls for “experience with Unreal Engine [or higher],” and his sources have revealed that ‘everything is on the table’ for the new Mass Effect game, including switching to Unreal Engine.
Nothing official has been confirmed yet in regards to what technology is powering Mass Effect 3, and the game is obviously years off at this point.

BioWare announced late last year that it had started production on a new Mass Effect game, and that a number of series veterans were involved in the project. While it’s still early days yet, you can view a cinematic trailer about what the future of the series made hold here.
In the meantime, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is now available for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, which remasters the original trilogy and features (nearly) all previously released DLC.
