Speaking during an interview with Famitsu, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Director Masayoshi Yokoyama has confirmed that the Yakuza developer is beavering away on a fresh IP.
“We’re also working on unannounced titles outside of [Yakuza and Judgment],” said Yokohama-san, adding, “We will continue to cherish the Judgement series.”
Presumably the latter comment is in wake of the uncertainty of the Judgment franchise, after a reported dispute between Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and the talent agony for lead actor Takuya Kimura.
Regardless, this is the first confirmation we have that the company is working on fresh IP, and it’ll be interesting to see if they choose to deviate from the action-adventure trappings we’ve become accustomed to. Having said that, they did mix things up with Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which ditched its arcade brawling for turn-based RPG combat.
